Hashima Island (Japan) in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Hashima Island is a handcrafted scenery included in the free Japan pack by Asobo. It’s an abandoned island, an ancient coal mine closed in 1974.
Had a lot of wind and could fly so slow there!
Microsoft/Xbox provided a copy of ‘Microsoft Flight Simulator’ to me for review. This is the version 1.9.3.

  1. Hashima Island is called Gunkanjima.
    Gunkan means Warship.
    Jima means island.
Because from a distance it looks like a warship.
No one has lived on the island since it was closed in 1974.
    Now it is abandoned.
It is registered as a World Heritage Site

Is this the Island that was in a James Bond movie with Daniel Craige?

  3. For Koreans, the island is a haunting reminder of thousands of laborers forcibly conscripted to work for Japan during its brutal colonial rule from 1910-45.

Japan government acknowledged that there were a large number of Koreans and others, brought against their will and forced to work under harsh conditions in the 1940s. and pledged a measure to remember the victims at a meeting of the World Heritage Committee 2015 in Bonn. At that time, Japan pledged to make sure to convey the full history of each site(including Hashima) and commemorate forced labor victims.

But, Japan reneged on it promise, glossing over the brutalities faced by forced laborers. It means Japan’s pledge was only to appease the World Heritage Committee to get the UNESCO designation.
